West Norfolk 1915Between April and September 1915 the 1st and 2nd Lovat Scouts were billeted in West Norfolk. This site is designed to collect together material to aid research into the soldiers who dug the trenches above on Docking Common.
We beleive that over 500 Lovat Scouts dug 15 acres of mock battle field in two weeks. |
Lovat ScoutsThe Lovat Scouts were initially a private army formed by Lord Lovat from the Gamekeepers and Gillies of the landed gentry. The majority came from the highlands and islands of Scotland.

The SoldiersWe are interested in the personal stories of individual soldiers who were billeted in West Norfolk in 1915. Joesph Pease we beleive supervised the digging of training, research and development trenches on Docking Common between April and September 1915 before sailing for Gallipoli.
